Anderlecht moves first on free agent Meunier, Antwerp follows

🇧🇪
Belgian right‑back Thomas Meunier, 34, is set to leave Lille as a free agent and has attracted concrete interest from two Jupiler Pro League clubs, with Anderlecht already putting forward a proposal and Antwerp also reaching out to his representatives. Meunier's contract with Lille expires this summer, leaving him free to sign with any club. He brings a wealth of experience, having played for Club Brugge, Paris Saint‑Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Trabzonspor and Lille, and has earned 82 caps for Belgium. Anderlecht's urgency is heightened by the injury to Ilay Camara, who has been sidelined with a foot problem, creating a vacancy at right‑back. The club therefore sees Meunier as a direct solution. Meunier, a Belgian who resides in Brussels, could also provide leadership to Anderlecht's relatively young squad. During his earlier spell at Club Brugge he featured in 198 matches. Antwerp, despite an unclear financial and sporting situation, have also contacted Meunier's camp, seeking experienced players after the exit of several key figures and specifically needing a right‑back. Meunier has said he is open to various options, naming Club Brugge as a possible Belgian choice while stating that any club may approach him. The coming weeks should reveal which club will secure his signature, with a return to the Jupiler Pro League this summer remaining a realistic prospect.
