Andoni Iraola May Push Liverpool to Sell Cody Gakpo

🇬🇧

Andoni Iraola has arrived as Liverpool's new head coach. His appointment could prompt a review of Cody Gakpo's future at the club. A sale price around £60 million is being floated.

Cody Gakpo possesses excellent technical ability and clinical finishing. However, his performances last season were inconsistent, with fans growing weary of weak displays. Defenders began to anticipate his movements as he often drifted inside to his stronger foot.

Iraola demands relentless movement, aggressive pressing and constant attacking variation. Under Arne Slot, Gakpo's limitations were regularly exposed, and his partnership with Milos Kerkez on Liverpool's left flank has struggled. Kerkez frequently overlapped, but Gakpo often moved centrally, limiting the fluidity required.

Club insiders suggest a £60 million fee reflects Gakpo's age, international pedigree and reputation across Europe. Numerous Champions League clubs would likely view him as an attractive addition. The income could accelerate Liverpool's rebuild.

Florian Wirtz appears suited to occupy the inside‑left role within Liverpool's attacking structure. Rio Ngumoha continues to emerge as a bright young talent needing minutes. Retaining Gakpo may restrict opportunities for both players.

The Dutch forward remains talented and capable of succeeding at the highest level. The decisive question is whether he fits Iraola's vision for the next Liverpool project. A decision on Gakpo is expected as the new era begins.
