Manchester City lock Gvardiol to long-term contract
Manchester City have agreed a long-term contract with Josko Gvardiol, ending speculation over his future.
The move secures the defender’s services until at least 2029, with the club triggering a release clause in his current deal. Manchester City will pay a reported £85m to activate the clause.
Josko Gvardiol joined City in August 2023 from RB Leipzig for an initial £73m fee. He has made 42 appearances since his arrival, scoring five goals.
Pep Guardiola’s side face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. Guardiola has confirmed Gvardiol will start if fit.
The deal reflects Manchester City’s defensive priorities under Guardiola, with Gvardiol now a long-term fixture in their backline.
