Bruno Fernandes Blames Roy Keane for False Record Claim
Bruno Fernandes accused Roy Keane of telling a lie about his pursuit of the Premier League assists record. The accusation followed Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Brighton on Sunday.
Fernandes reached 21 assists in that match, securing the outright season record. He had previously matched the 20‑assist benchmark in United’s 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest a week earlier.
The 20‑assist benchmark was previously shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Both Henry and De Bruyne held the joint record before Fernandes surpassed it.
Keane claimed Fernandes was fixated on the record rather than team objectives. He described Fernandes as the centre of a “circus act” and suggested his focus was individual glory.
Fernandes’ new record cements his place in Premier League history. The dispute may intensify scrutiny of his role within Manchester United’s attacking setup.
