Embolo clears visa delay ahead of World Cup debut

Switzerland striker Breel Embolo will join the national team in North America on Friday for the FIFA World Cup.

The Swiss Football Association confirmed Embolo’s visa was approved after a three-day delay. He missed the team’s initial departure to the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Embolo was added to the squad for the tournament on 13 November. His inclusion followed an injury to striker Noah Okafor.

Head coach Murat Yakin included Embolo despite his club responsibilities at AS Monaco. Embolo has 34 caps and 12 goals for Switzerland.

The Swiss team now prepares for their opening match against Hungary in Dallas on 24 November.
