Eight years on: Daan Braspenning swaps Club Brugge for OH Leuven
After eight seasons with Club Brugge, central defender Daan Braspenning has signed for Jupiler Pro League rivals OH Leuven, ending his spell with the Blauzwart side and its youth outfit Club NXT, where he helped reach the Youth League final this season.
Club Brugge continues to rely on its academy, having reached the Youth League final this season, a milestone that underlines the club's commitment to homegrown talent. The Belgian side's youth team, Club NXT, featured prominently in that run, showcasing several prospects.
Daan Braspenning will leave that environment for fellow Jupiler Pro League side OH Leuven, where he joins a squad overseen by former Belgian international Timmy Simons. Simons, now in a coaching role, may eventually give the central defender a chance to break into the first‑team lineup.
Club Brugge posted on its official channels: “Na 8 jaar bij Blauw‑Zwart trekt Daan Braspenning naar OH Leuven. Bedankt voor alles & veel succes, Daan!”. The message thanked Braspenning for his eight years of service and wished him well at his new club.
Braspenning wrote on Instagram: “Na acht geweldige jaren bij deze club is het tijd om afscheid te nemen. Ik ben ontzettend trots dat ik deze kleuren jarenlang heb mogen dragen.” He added gratitude for the lessons and friendships he received, noting the club will always hold a special place in his heart.
The defender once said his dream team was Manchester United, but after a stint at Sint‑Jozef he spent the past eight years with Club Brugge. During his time at Club NXT he contributed to the Youth League final appearance, marking his last major achievement with the Blauzwart side.
While his destination is now confirmed, scouts noted that several clubs, possibly including foreign suitors, have shown interest following his performances in the Youth League. The move reflects the ongoing demand for young Belgian defenders in the domestic market.
