Barça leads Madrid in Spain’s World Cup squad count

🇪🇸

Spain’s squad announcement for the upcoming FIFA World Cup will see a record gap between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid internationals.

Luis de la Fuente’s call-up list, scheduled for Monday, is expected to feature at least 10 players from FC Barcelona and no more than two from Real Madrid.

Since de la Fuente took charge, Spain’s selections have included players from multiple clubs, maintaining balance. The upcoming announcement could surpass historical differences dating back to Spain’s first World Cup appearance in 1934.

FC Barcelona’s dominance in the squad follows strong domestic performances, including their league title and Champions League progress. Real Madrid, despite European success, has fewer players in contention for De la Fuente’s final 26.

The World Cup starts in a few weeks. Spain’s squad will be announced Monday.

De la Fuente has previously emphasized squad diversity across La Liga clubs in his selections.

Historical records show Spain’s World Cup squads have rarely exceeded a three-player margin between Barcelona and Madrid. This year’s gap could set a new benchmark.
