Florentino Pérez leads polls ahead of Real Madrid vote
Real Madrid members vote on June 7 in the club elections. Current president Florentino Pérez leads polls for re-election. His opponent Enrique Riquelme announced his candidacy after Pérez’s press conference.
This marks Madrid’s first presidential election in two decades. Pérez has served as president since 2009. The election follows his recent press conference where he outlined club priorities.
Enrique Riquelme emerged as challenger after criticizing Pérez’s leadership. Campaigning has begun at the club’s Valdebebas training facility. Madridistas will cast ballots at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Polls show Pérez leading by a wide margin. His tenure includes 15 major trophies, including five Champions League titles. Riquelme’s campaign focuses on club governance and financial transparency.
The winner needs majority support from over 90,000 eligible voters. Pérez’s Real Madrid remains the most valuable football club globally. His re-election would extend his tenure to 17 years.
If elected, Pérez will focus on stadium expansion and youth academy upgrades. Madrid’s board has already approved a €500m renovation plan for the Bernabéu.
