Free transfer fuels Solihull Moors' fifth signing ahead of new season

🇬🇧

The 25-year-old left-back Junior Tiensia has rejoined Solihull Moors on a free transfer, marking the club’s second signing within 24 hours as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. Tiensia arrives after a one‑season spell at Wealdstone, where he scored once in 32 appearances, and after previously featuring seven times for the Moors in the latter half of the 2022‑23 season.

He originally developed at Millwall, then joined Barrow, logging two League Two seasons after a brief return to Solihull in the second half of 2022‑23, where he made seven appearances. His time at Barrow followed his initial spell with the Moors, adding valuable league experience.

Alex Whitmore, the 30-year-old defender, also re‑signed for Solihull Moors, reversing his earlier decision to depart for personal reasons at the end of the previous season. Whitmore’s return complements Tiensia’s arrival, providing the club with seasoned defensive options.

Tiensia becomes the fifth addition to the Damson Park squad, joining fellow defenders Matty Carson and Justin Hanks as well as midfielder Jamie Andrews, all recruited to bolster the side for the new campaign. The quartet completes a series of signings aimed at strengthening both the back line and midfield.

The club’s recruitment drive underscores a strategic push to reinforce the back line, with both Tiensia and Whitmore bringing League experience to a side that finished the last season without a confirmed defensive overhaul. Such additions are expected to provide depth and competition ahead of the forthcoming fixtures.

Solihull Moors’ activity reflects a broader trend in the lower leagues, where free transfers and short‑term contracts are increasingly used to reshape squads ahead of the upcoming season. Clubs at this level often rely on free moves to manage limited budgets while still targeting experienced players.

Overall, the free‑transfer signings illustrate how clubs like Solihull Moors navigate financial constraints by focusing on player availability rather than transfer fees. This approach may shape the transfer dynamics across the National League in the months to come.
