Genk locks down teenage keeper Lucca Brughmans until 2030
KRC Genk have secured 18‑year‑old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans on a new contract that runs until 2030, despite interest from a number of top clubs, the club announced on 5 July 2026. The deal ties the promising talent to the Limburg side for the next four seasons as the club prepares its squad for the upcoming campaign.
Brughmans, who turned 18 this year, forced his way into the starting eleven at the end of the previous season, establishing himself as the first‑choice goalkeeper for Genk. His performances earned him a place among the club’s core players as the team looks to build continuity.
Several top clubs had been monitoring his progress, according to the club’s announcement. Despite the external interest, Brughmans chose to remain in Genk’s project.
“Lucca is a goalkeeper who fits perfectly within KRC Genk’s vision. He is eager to learn, works every day with great discipline and exudes a natural calm,” said Head of Football Dimitri de Condé. De Condé highlighted the player’s attitude as a key factor in the decision.
“We are particularly pleased that he extends his future with KRC Genk. He has everything to play an important role in the coming seasons for our club,” de Condé added. The club expects Brughmans to contribute significantly as they aim for higher ambitions.
The signing forms part of the Jupiler Pro League’s summer transfer window, where clubs are shaping their cores for the new season. Genk’s move underscores a trend of securing young domestic talent amid widespread interest across the league.
