Joselu urges Mourinho to restore discipline at Real Madrid

🇪🇸

Former Real Madrid striker Joselu has voiced strong support for Jose Mourinho’s potential return, arguing that the club’s dressing room urgently needs discipline. Speaking on Iker Casillas’ podcast, the Spain international highlighted Mourinho’s character and ability to put people in their place as essential for Real Madrid’s revival.

Joselu said Mourinho is ‘a coach with a lot of character, with ideas that Madrid needs because it needs a change, and he’s a coach who has what it takes to put people in their place.’ The former striker believes such personality is exactly what the squad requires.

When asked if Mourinho is the right appointment, Joselu replied that only time will reveal the answer, noting ‘Could it be the best option? We won’t know that until the months go by.’ He expressed confidence that the decision will be judged over the coming months.

Joselu stressed the locker‑room issue, asking ‘Does Real Madrid need discipline, especially in the locker room? Yes, one hundred percent.’ He argued that a lack of discipline has become a critical problem for the club.

He added that ‘A club like Real Madrid can’t afford to go two years without winning a title,’ underscoring the pressure on the institution to return to success quickly.

Last season saw a divide under Xabi Alonso, whose mid‑season dismissal was followed by Alvaro Arbeloa’s brief tenure, which did not resolve the unrest. Joselu cited altercations involving Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Carreras, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde as evidence of a troubled dressing room.

Joselu concluded that Mourinho’s leadership and strong personality could be crucial as Real Madrid aim to bounce back next season, hoping the new coach can restore standards and end the recent disappointment.
