Ronald Koeman Names Three Goalkeepers for World Cup, Driessen Criticises KNVB
Ronald Koeman announced the Netherlands' squad for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and confirmed three goalkeepers in the final list.
Valentijn Driessen said he has no good word for the KNVB after recent budget cuts, adding “Wat een centenneukers zijn”.
Koeman had earlier indicated that a fourth goalkeeper was being considered for the tournament roster.
The final selection therefore omitted the additional goalkeeper.
Driessen’s criticism highlights growing discontent among Dutch football figures over the KNVB’s financial tightening.
Why the KNVB is turning every Dutch fan into a twelfth man at the World Cup
He described the association’s approach as overly frugal. The 2026 World Cup will take place across three North American host nations. The Dutch squad will begin preparations ahead of the competition. The three goalkeepers named by Koeman will compete for the starting spot during the tournament. The KNVB must balance performance goals with the fiscal constraints that prompted Driessen’s comment.
