Míchel appointed new Ajax head coach
Míchel will take charge at AFC Ajax after leaving Girona. The Spanish coach’s contract with the La Liga relegated club expired this month.
Ajax confirmed the appointment through an official statement. The club did not disclose contract length or financial terms.
Míchel, 54, replaces Maurice Steijn. Steijn left for RKC Waalwijk in June.
The new coach arrives with Eredivisie experience. He managed Go Ahead Eagles from 2018 to 2021.
Ajax faces a transitional squad. Players including Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey and Davy Klaassen are expected to feature prominently under Míchel.
Pre-season training begins on 1 July. The Eredivisie opener is on 11 August against FC Twente.
