Heracles Almelo extends Thomas Bruns contract after Mike te Wierik

🇳🇱

Heracles Almelo confirmed another contract extension, signing Thomas Bruns for an undisclosed term. The 34-year-old midfielder joins Mike te Wierik as the latest senior player retained by the Eredivisie relegation side. Both players remain committed to Heracles for their upcoming Keuken Kampioen Divisie campaign. The club announced the deal without specifying length or financial details. Heracles currently prepares for league action at the Asito Stadion. Manager John Stegeman retains both midfielders in his squad-building plans.

Bruns, a club product, has made 287 appearances across two spells with Heracles. Te Wierik, signed from FC Emmen last season, has 250 Eredivisie games to his name. The extensions underscore the club’s focus on experienced leadership for the second-tier transition.

Heracles finished 16th in the 2023-24 Eredivisie, triggering relegation after a single season back in the top flight. They open their Keuken Kampioen Divisie campaign on August 9 against MVV Maastricht. Stegeman’s side will also compete in the KNVB Beker first round.

The club’s technical director Paul Bosvelt emphasized keeping core players to stabilize the squad. Bosvelt previously played for Heracles from 2003 to 2007 before joining FC Twente. The policy aims to blend youth development with experienced campaigners like Bruns and Te Wierik.

Heracles Almelo will host their first home league match of the season on August 17 against FC Dordrecht at the Asito Stadion. Tickets go on sale one week prior.
