Bayer Leverkusen beats PSG on penalties to win KDB Cup

🇧🇪

Bayer 04 Leverkusen defeated Paris Saint-Germain on penalties to claim the ninth KDB Cup. The final ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, with Leverkusen winning 4-3 in the shootout. Around 13,500 fans attended the match in Drongen.

Neymar missed the decisive penalty for PSG. This marks Leverkusen’s first KDB Cup title. Paris Saint-Germain had won the previous two editions.

Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso praised his team’s resilience. PSG coach Thomas Tuchel described the defeat as "painful" but acknowledged Leverkusen’s strong performance.

The KDB Cup featured four teams: Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Paris Saint-Germain, Club Brugge KV and KRC Genk. Leverkusen topped the group stage with two wins, including a 2-1 victory over Club Brugge KV.

Drongen hosted the tournament for the third consecutive year. The event is organized in partnership with KDB, a Belgian financial services provider.

Leverkusen midfielder Robert Andrich scored the winning penalty. PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved two Leverkusen spot-kicks before Neymar’s miss sealed the outcome.
