Paris sees hundreds arrested after PSG win
Hundreds of people were arrested in Paris after the Champions League final victory. Le Monde recorded at least 235 arrests, a police officer was wounded, a kiosk near the Champs-Élysées was set on fire, and six vehicles were damaged.
Rioters also damaged a bakery and a restaurant, threw fireworks, and lit bonfires. Police responded with batons and tear‑gas deployment.
The ring road around central Paris was blocked by rioters, causing traffic disruption. Bus services were suspended because crowds made safe operation impossible.
More than 20,000 police officers were deployed across France for the PSG‑Arsenal final, with about 8,000 stationed in Paris. By midnight the total number of arrests nationwide reached 326.
PSG defeated Arsenal on penalties in Budapest, securing a second consecutive Champions League title. Similar riots and lootings occurred in Paris after the previous year’s final.
A celebration in Paris on Sunday is expected to draw roughly 100,000 fans. President Macron will receive the team at the Élysée, where the palace issued a statement praising French football ahead of the World Cup.
