Richard Hughes Near Al-Hilal Sporting Director Role

🇬🇧

Richard Hughes is reported to be in advanced talks to become sporting director of Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

The report comes from Sacha Tavolieri on X.

Tavolieri said Hughes would work on Liverpool’s next window before a potential move.

Hughes was appointed Liverpool sporting director after leaving his role as Bournemouth technical director.

Michael Edwards, FSG’s CEO of Football, brought Hughes to Anfield.

Hughes helped secure Arne Slot as Liverpool head coach.

Slot’s first season ended with Liverpool winning the Premier League.

After a poor second season, Slot’s tenure ended.

Hughes then appointed Andoni Iraola as the new head coach, having previously overseen his appointment at Bournemouth.

Hughes faced scrutiny after offering Mohamed Salah a £400k per week contract.

A £450m spending spree last summer was described as making the Premier League champions worse, not better.

Hughes’ contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, the same expiry as Michael Edwards.

Noise is increasing about a possible move to Al-Hilal as the Saudi club undergoes an administrative restructure.
