Roma reject Betis loan offer for Dovbyk as future hangs in balance

Roma have turned down Real Betis Sevilla’s proposal to take Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk on loan with an option to buy for €15 million in the summer of 2027. The decision comes as Dovbyk’s season has been marred by physical problems that have kept him out of coach Gasperini’s plans. Dovbyk’s campaign at Roma has been described as a nightmare due to recurring injuries, limiting his availability for the Giallorossi side. Gasperini, renowned for nurturing attackers, has therefore been unable to integrate the Ukrainian forward into his system. The club is set to begin a training camp in Trigoria on July 13, but no guarantee has been given regarding Dovbyk’s role upon his return. The uncertainty surrounds whether he will remain a technical asset or become a liability that needs to be displaced. Betis Sevilla submitted a loan offer that includes a purchase option priced at €15 million, scheduled to become effective in the summer of 2027. The proposal was reported by Corriere dello Sport, highlighting the Spanish side’s interest in the former Girona player. Roma appear more inclined to sell Dovbyk immediately to free up space for a replacement suited to replace Malen, whose playing style differs from the Ukrainian striker. The club’s strategy aims to secure a player whose characteristics better match the coach’s tactical requirements. Rejecting Betis Sevilla’s offer also avoids the risk of welcoming Dovbyk back to Trigoria in a few months only to face a possible devaluation. Further developments on the striker’s future are awaited as the Roman side evaluates its options.
