RSC Anderlecht barred from taking fans to Union away match
RSC Anderlecht will not be allowed to bring travelling supporters to any away fixture against city rivals Union at Joseph Marienstadion next season, after the Belgian football court imposed an €8,000 fine following more than thirty incidents in the Croky Cup final, which Union won 3‑1 after extra time.
During the final, more than thirty incidents were recorded. Supporters launched hundreds of fireworks, destroyed over 250 seats and a gate, fought among themselves, and the smoke from pyrotechnics delayed the kickoff, while at least fifteen rockets were thrown onto the pitch.
The football court (bondsparket) deemed the conduct unacceptable and initially demanded a €10,000 penalty. After consideration, RSC Anderlecht received an effective fine of €8,000 for the season.
RSC Anderlecht defended its position by highlighting its own initiatives to steer supporters onto the right path. The club also criticised the federation’s organisation, citing insufficient entrance control, inadequate security and a shortage of volunteers, and it has asked the KBVB and police for video evidence, which has not yet arrived.
The Disciplinary Committee (DCP) noted that the behaviour is often linked to young fans acting without direction and identified the historic tension between the two clubs. Consequently, the DCP ordered a one‑year ban on Anderlecht supporters travelling to Union matches.
Anderlecht icon Pär Zetterberg commented on the club’s upcoming European opponent, stating: “Hammarby is een stuk sterker dan Häcken”. The remark was made in the context of preparing for the first European tie.
Separately, RSC Anderlecht announced that defenders Moussa Diarra and Mathys Angély will be deployed in the next fixture. The move underscores the club’s focus on squad rotation amid the disciplinary fallout.
