Barcelona eyes Bernardo Silva as summer transfer target

🇪🇸

Barcelona considers Bernardo Silva a viable summer transfer option as the club accelerates recruitment. The Spanish champions have opened talks with Silva’s representatives over a potential move. Silva, 29, remains contracted to Manchester City until 2025.

Barça’s sporting director Deco has prioritized Silva as a key target to reinforce the midfield. Deco met with Silva’s agent in London last week to discuss terms. Manchester City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain has not yet responded to Barça’s initial approach.

Silva has featured 32 times for Manchester City last season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in all competitions. He played 45 minutes in City’s 2-1 Champions League quarter-final loss to Real Madrid. Silva joined City in 2017 from Monaco for a reported £43m.

Barcelona has already signed defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu from Southampton for a reported £6m. Romeu, 32, agreed a two-year deal. The club also completed the free transfer of midfielder João Félix from Atlético Madrid on a one-year loan with an option to buy.

Barça’s transfer activity follows financial restructuring under new president John Textor. The club aims to balance squad renewal with cost control. Financial fair play constraints remain a key factor in ongoing negotiations.

Silva’s potential arrival would mark his return to La Liga after five seasons in the Premier League. He previously played for Monaco in Ligue 1 before joining City. A move to Barcelona would reunite him with former City manager Pep Guardiola.
