Anthony Martial seeks Ligue 1 return after Monterrey exit

🇫🇷 3 uur geleden

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is targeting a Ligue 1 comeback after his contract with CF Monterrey was terminated. The 30-year-old made 20 appearances for the Mexican club, scoring once and providing three assists, but his performances drew criticism and led to his departure. Martial’s contract, originally set to run until 2027, was cut short amid the club’s decision to release him. Now a free agent, he is reportedly eager to return to France, where his representatives have submitted his name to several Ligue 1 clubs.

Martial, a 30-time France international, has not ruled out any potential move, though OGC Nice remain the only club yet to explicitly dismiss the possibility. However, for Nice to sign him, the club will need to reduce their squad size and lower their wage bill, as Martial’s demands are described as substantial. The situation remains fluid, with no concrete agreement in place for the 2015 Golden Boy.

Martial’s time at CF Monterrey was marked by inconsistency, with his four goal contributions in 20 appearances failing to meet expectations. His departure follows a challenging spell abroad, which began nearly a year ago. The termination of his contract has now opened the door for a potential return to European football, specifically in Ligue 1.

His representatives have been proactive in exploring options, with multiple clubs in France reportedly considering his profile. However, the financial and structural constraints at OGC Nice suggest that a move may not be straightforward. Martial’s future remains uncertain as negotiations continue behind the scenes.
