Gençlerbirligi fails to trigger buy clause, Ricardo Velho returns to Farense
Gençlerbirligi did not activate the purchase option for goalkeeper Ricardo Velho, so he returns to Farense. The deadline to trigger the option expired on Wednesday.
Ricardo Velho had been on loan at Gençlerbirligi from Farense. The loan agreement included a clause allowing Gençlerbirligi to buy the player for a set fee.
The agreed purchase price was 3.5 million. No payment was made by Gençlerbirligi before the deadline.
As the deadline passed without activation, the option lapsed. Consequently, the player's registration remains with Farense.
During his loan spell, Ricardo Velho received a call-up to the national team for the World Cup. His international involvement highlighted his profile.
Ricardo Velho will rejoin Farense for the upcoming season. The club will have the goalkeeper back after the loan termination.
