RWDM Brussels denied license, relegated to Belgian amateur tier

🇧🇪 1 uur geleden
RWDM Brussels will not compete in the Challenger Pro League next season after failing to secure a professional license. The decision follows an earlier reversal by the Belgian Competition Authority, which had temporarily reinstated the club’s second-tier status. The Belgian Football Association has confirmed that RWDM Brussels does not meet the licensing criteria required for professional competition. This outcome leaves the club’s future in doubt beyond the current campaign. Club NXT’s position remains uncertain as RWDM Brussels’ demotion could now force NXT to exit the second division. The Belgian FA will determine NXT’s status based on the league’s restructuring and licensing outcomes. The Belgian Competition Authority’s earlier ruling had temporarily blocked RWDM Brussels’ relegation to the amateur Eerste Nationale. That decision has now been overruled by the licensing body’s final assessment. RWDM Brussels had been set to compete in the Challenger Pro League after the competition authority intervened in their case. The club’s failure to obtain a license means their participation in professional football is no longer guaranteed. Club NXT, currently competing in 1B, may now face an enforced demotion if RWDM Brussels cannot fulfill second-tier requirements. The Belgian FA will clarify NXT’s future in the coming weeks as part of the league’s restructuring process. The licensing process has concluded with RWDM Brussels excluded from professional football for the 2024–25 season. This marks a significant setback for the Brussels-based club after their recent legal victory. Belgian football’s governing body has not yet publicly addressed the full implications for Club NXT or the second division’s structure. Further announcements are expected regarding the league’s revised format and participant eligibility. With RWDM Brussels out of contention, the Challenger Pro League may undergo changes to accommodate the altered landscape. The Belgian FA will finalize decisions on league alignment and licensing compliance in the coming days.
