Barcelona sign Lewandowski, €150m deal adds 14th top scorer
Barcelona have completed the signing of Robert Lewandowski. The transfer and salary package totals €150 million.
Lewandowski arrives with 119 goals in 191 appearances over four seasons at the club. He also brings three La Liga titles and ranks as the 14th‑highest scorer in Barcelona’s history.
The club acknowledges that the striker arrived later than ideal. A younger player with more hunger and explosiveness might have altered his impact in Europe.
During his tenure, competition for the forward position was limited, giving him an extra year without pressure. Without anyone to push him, the seasons felt long.
His performance declined as the calendar progressed, and when the decisive Champions League knockout matches arrived, Barcelona needed his ‘9’ to be fully fit. Lewandowski was either injured or exhausted at those crucial moments.
Critics who previously condemned earlier executives for escalating contracts have now applied the same approach to Lewandowski, resulting in the €150 million outlay.
Barcelona hope the investment will pay off in the upcoming season as they aim for domestic and European success.
