Cesar Azpilicueta to retire after Sevilla match on May 23
Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta announced his retirement on the eve of his 37th birthday. He will play his final professional match for Sevilla against Celta Vigo on Saturday 23 May at 21:00.
Azpilicueta enjoyed a decorated spell at Chelsea, where he won two Premier League titles. He also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy with the London club.
Before his time in England, the defender featured for Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1. His experience in France contributed to his development as a versatile full‑back.
The 36‑year‑old announced his decision to retire after a career spanning more than a decade at the top level. He will leave the game having played for clubs in Spain, England and France.
Sevilla will host Celta Vigo in what will be Azpilicueta’s farewell appearance. The match is scheduled for 21:00 local time on 23 May.
