Inaki Pena near €3m transfer from Barcelona to Panathinaikos

🇪🇸 1 uur geleden

Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena is on the verge of leaving the club for Greek side Panathinaikos in a deal valued at under €3 million, with the transfer expected to be finalised before the start of pre‑season. After months of uncertainty about his future and having fallen outside Hansi Flick’s plans, the Spanish shot‑stopper is pushing for a quick exit.

Negotiations between Barcelona and Panathinaikos have advanced, according to source Jijantes, and confidence is growing that an agreement will be reached soon. The clubs aim to complete the deal for a fee below €3 million, prioritising speed over a larger amount.

Pena has been excluded from Hansi Flick’s plans and believes a fresh challenge abroad is best for his career. He is actively seeking to finalise the move before Barcelona’s pre‑season preparations begin.

Although he remains under contract until 2029, both player and club agree that a separation is the logical step at this stage. Barcelona has shown no desire to complicate talks and is prepared to facilitate his departure.

Several clubs from La Liga have monitored his availability, but Pena prefers to continue his career abroad, with Panathinaikos now leading the race for his signature. The Greek side has moved decisively in negotiations and is best positioned to complete the transfer.

The move would reduce Barcelona’s wage bill and may include a clause allowing the club to retain a percentage of any future sale, ensuring potential future revenue. It also simplifies Flick’s squad planning by removing uncertainty in the goalkeeping hierarchy.
