Jonathan Fischer likely to leave FC Metz after €3m move
Jonathan Fischer, the 24‑year‑old former Denmark youth international, is set to depart FC Metz at season’s end, Foot Mercato reports. He arrived last summer for €3 million, was benched for seven Ligue 1 matches, and featured in the 0‑0 draw with OGC Nice, while clubs from England, Scotland and Italy have shown interest.
When he arrived, Fischer signed a four‑year contract that runs until 2029. The club’s recent relegation to Ligue 2 has accelerated speculation about his future.
Fischer began the campaign as the first‑choice defender for Les Grenats, the nickname of FC Metz. His early performances cemented his role at the start of the Ligue 1 season.
At the end of March, he lost his place in the starting eleven. He then spent seven consecutive Ligue 1 matches on the bench.
He returned for the season’s final match, a goalless draw with OGC Nice. The appearance marked his only appearance after the bench spell.
Foot Mercato reports interest from clubs in England, Scotland and Italy, though no names have been disclosed. The identities of the interested parties remain unknown.
The defender is expected to leave FC Metz during the current transfer window. His departure would occur well before his contract expires in 2029.
The information comes from journalist Luke Entwistle at GFFN. Entwistle’s report highlights the uncertainty surrounding Fischer’s next destination.
