Laia Codina joins West Ham United on three-year deal

West Ham United have secured the signing of 26‑year‑old defender Laia Codina from Arsenal on a free transfer, with the Spanish international committing to a three‑year contract that begins when her Arsenal deal expires on 1 July 2026. The move makes Codina the first summer acquisition for the East London club.

Codina arrived at Arsenal from Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the summer of 2023. She recorded 60 appearances for the club across all competitions.

While at Arsenal she collected the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Subway Women’s League Cup. She was part of the squad that lifted each of those trophies.

On the international stage Codina has earned 26 caps for Spain and scored two goals. She has also been a member of Spain’s FIFA Women’s World Cup‑winning side and the UEFA Women’s Nations League champions.

Laia Codina said, “I’m so happy to be joining West Ham United. West Ham is a great Club and you can see the growth within the team over the last few years,” in a statement released by the club. She added that she knows Rita Guarino from Italy and looks forward to contributing her experience on and off the pitch.

Codina becomes West Ham United’s first signing of the summer transfer window. The deal was announced via an official press release from the club this afternoon.

At 26, Codina brings several years of top‑level experience to the Hammers. Her background includes development in Barcelona’s academy, which she credits for her composure and decision‑making.
