Luis Díaz confirms transfer plans away from Liverpool
Liverpool attacker Luis Díaz has confirmed he will leave the club this summer. The Colombian forward declared his intention to pursue a new challenge during an interview with local media. His contract with Liverpool expires in 12 months, with no option for renewal currently discussed.
The 27-year-old joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for a reported £49 million fee. Since then, he has made 127 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 24 assists across all competitions. His contributions helped Liverpool win the FA Cup and EFL Cup last season.
Díaz’s departure would mark another high-profile exit from Jürgen Klopp’s squad. The German manager has overseen significant turnover in his nine-year tenure, including the sales of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah’s initial loan departure. Liverpool’s transfer strategy under Richard Hughes has prioritized high-profile signings, with £450 million spent last summer alone.
The club’s remaining attacking options include Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and new signing Alexander Isak. Isak, signed from Newcastle for a British record fee, has yet to make his competitive debut due to injury. Díaz’s potential exit adds pressure on Liverpool to strengthen their frontline before the summer transfer window.
Díaz’s international commitments with Colombia may also influence his decision. The Copa América begins in June, and his participation could affect his availability for Liverpool’s early pre-season preparations. His form for Colombia has remained consistent, with five goals in his last 12 appearances.
Liverpool’s next transfer targets reportedly include young forwards such as Michael Olise and Michael Ndiweni. However, Díaz’s departure would leave a significant void in their attacking options. His dribbling, work rate, and ability to score in big matches have made him a fan favorite.
The club has not yet issued an official response to Díaz’s comments. His contract situation remains unresolved, with no new terms offered or agreed upon. His current deal includes a release clause, though its value has not been disclosed.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Díaz’s future will be a key storyline for Liverpool. His departure would align with the club’s recent trend of selling high-performing players for substantial fees.
