Grenoble Tribunal Suspends Annecy BMX Stadium Permit

On 18 May the administrative tribunal of Grenoble ordered the suspension of the municipal decree that authorised the construction of a BMX stadium in Annecy. The ruling affects the planned venue for the 2027 BMX World Championships. The municipal decree, issued on 10 February, had permitted the building of the facility on the Glaisins site in the Haute‑Savoie commune of Annecy. The site was selected to host the world championship events. The stadium was intended to accommodate the BMX World Championships scheduled for 2027. Its completion was central to the event’s infrastructure plan. The legal challenge was filed by the environmental association France Nature Environnement together with a resident of the Glaisins site. Their appeal prompted the tribunal’s intervention. With only fifteen months remaining before the competition, the suspension creates urgency for the organisers. The timeline for construction is now uncertain. The project remains on hold pending a resolution of the legal dispute. Authorities will need to address the court’s decision to keep the championship schedule on track.
