Olympique de Marseille Faces Turbulent Transfer Window

🇫🇷 1 uur geleden
Olympique de Marseille are in serious financial trouble and face possible sanctions that could bar them from next season’s Europa League. The club expects a turbulent summer with several likely departures. Mason Greenwood, Olympique de Marseille’s top scorer over the last two seasons, is being targeted by AS Roma and Fenerbahçe. Hakan SafI, a candidate for the presidency of Fenerbahçe, claims to have an agreement with the English forward. Fabrizio Romano reported that Greenwood liked posts and followed SafI on social media. Olympique de Marseille would value Greenwood at €50 million plus €5 million in bonuses. Pierre-Émile Hojbjerg, a leader in Roberto De Zerbi’s project, finished the season mentally drained and could seek a new challenge. The Danish midfielder’s departure would reduce Olympique de Marseille’s wage bill, as he is among the highest earners after arriving from the Premier League two years ago. Leonardo Balerdi, an Argentine defender at Olympique de Marseille since 2021, saw his stock drop after struggling with captaincy and missing the World Cup through injury. Quinten Timber, signed for €4 million at the end of the transfer window, could fetch a profit after his World Cup exposure. Geronimo Rulli, the 34‑year‑old Argentine goalkeeper, fell apart in his second season, prompting the club to consider backup Jeffrey de Lange as a replacement. Gregory Lorenzi has only just taken up his role as sporting director, adding to the club’s uncertainty. Bruno Genesio is being tipped as the leading candidate for Olympique de Marseille’s head coach position. The club will need to recruit smartly and on a budget given the lack of transfer rumors.
