Paris Saint-Germain Wins Second UEFA Champions League Title

1 uur geleden
Paris Saint-Germain secured a second consecutive UEFA Champions League crown at the end of last month. The following day, thousands of supporters filled the Champs-de-Mars and the Parc des Princes to greet the champions. A survey of 1,511 French respondents showed a marked rise in the club’s popularity. Seventy‑three percent said PSG improves France’s international image, while seventy‑one percent believe the club promotes French football. Sixty‑seven percent feel the team makes French people proud. Among viewers of the UCL final against Arsenal, seventy‑seven percent wanted the Ligue 1 side to win. Eighty‑four percent said they back PSG when the club faces a foreign opponent in European competition. Sixty‑seven percent now hold a positive view of PSG, linking the team with hard work (seventy‑three percent) and solidarity (sixty‑nine percent). President Emmanuel Macron praised the achievement, declaring, “Long live Paris, long live PSG, long live France.” He noted that PSG became the first club to win the UEFA Champions League on two occasions. The only other French side to have lifted the trophy is Olympique de Marseille, which did so in 1993. Sixty‑five percent of respondents consider PSG one of the greatest teams in French sport history. When ranking iconic French football eras, respondents placed Paris Saint-Germain first (forty‑three percent), ahead of Olympique de Marseille’s 1990s team (fourteen percent) and AS Saint‑Étienne’s 1970s side (thirteen percent). Macron added that France had achieved in two years what it had not done in seventy years – two Champions League titles. The findings were reported by Luke Entwistle. The poll was conducted nationwide across France.
