Gonçalo Silva signs professional contract with Benfica
Sixteen‑year‑old central defender Gonçalo Silva has signed a professional contract with Benfica. The deal was finalized in 2024.
Silva described the signing as a dream come true. He expressed happiness at reaching this level with the club he most wants to represent.
Silva began his football journey at ND Colégio de Ermesinde. He later played for Gondomar SC, SC Salgueiros, Casa Benfica de Fafe, FC Porto and SC Braga. He joined Benfica’s academy in 2024.
Silva stated his primary goal is to break into Benfica’s A team. He believes continued work at the club will make that happen.
This season Silva helped the under‑17 side win the II Divisão Nacional Sub‑17. He contributed two goals in 23 appearances. He has also earned four caps and scored once for Portugal’s under‑16 national team.
Silva’s contract ties him to Benfica as he aims for senior football. The club’s youth setup will monitor his progress toward first‑team promotion.
