Ralf Rangnick rejects AC Milan sporting director role
Ralf Rangnick will not join AC Milan as sporting director after rejecting the club’s offer. Milan pursued Rangnick following his exit from Austria Wien.
Rangnick sought full autonomy over technical decisions, including control of the team’s style and staff appointments. He raised concerns about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s influence on club operations, fearing a repeat of last season’s instability.
Gerry Cardinale and Ibrahimovic met with Rangnick, but Milan failed to meet his demand for unrestricted authority. The Rossoneri’s hesitation prompted Rangnick to withdraw from negotiations.
He had planned to bring his staff from Austria Wien, including Oliver Glasner, but now intends to focus on the World Cup instead. The collapse mirrors past failed sporting director appointments at Milan.
Cardinale must address Ibrahimovic’s role if Milan aim to attract sporting directors with clear technical visions.
