Rangers Sign Hearts Captain Lawrence Shankland
Rangers have signed Lawrence Shankland, the Hearts captain, on a two-year contract. The deal includes an option to extend for a further 12 months after Rangers activated a break clause in Shankland’s three-year agreement with Hearts.
Shankland, a striker, had only recently signed a three-year contract with Hearts. The break clause, embedded in that contract, allowed Rangers to trigger his departure.
By activating the clause, Rangers secured Shankland without paying a transfer fee. The move strengthens Rangers’ attacking options ahead of the upcoming season.
The two-year term runs until 2026, with the optional additional year extending it to 2027. Hearts lose their captain but retain a contractual clause that could benefit them financially if the option is exercised.
Shankland is expected to join Rangers’ training squad immediately. Rangers will assess his impact as they prepare for domestic competitions.
