Reims goalkeeper Jaouen stays as Chelsea eye Penders
Stade de Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen will remain at the club this summer after Chelsea opted not to sign him.
Strasbourg goalkeeper Mike Penders (25) has emerged as Chelsea’s priority target for the goalkeeper position. Reims have made it clear they will not accept less than €20 million for Jaouen, a valuation that has deterred multiple interested parties.
Jaouen, a France Under-21 international, has been a Reims first-choice goalkeeper since joining from Lorient in January 2023. He made 42 appearances across all competitions last season and has started all six matches this campaign.
Penders has been a consistent performer for Strasbourg, conceding just 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season. His contract expires in 2026, and Chelsea are seeking a long-term solution under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Reims sporting director Mathieu Lacour confirmed the club’s stance on Jaouen’s valuation, stating they will not sell for less than €20 million. Chelsea’s hierarchy, including technical director Petr Čech, are now prioritizing Penders as a more attainable option.
Jaouen’s future remains tied to Reims, with no imminent move expected despite ongoing interest.
