Rio Ngumoha Leaves England Camp After Man of Match
Rio Ngumoha will leave the England camp after being named man of the match in a 1‑0 warm‑up win over New Zealand. Thomas Tuchel praised the 17‑year‑old forward’s impact, but Ngumoha is not in England’s 26‑man squad for the World Cup.
England’s final pre‑tournament friendly is set for Wednesday against Costa Rica, where Tuchel may consider Ngumoha again. The squad will be bolstered by the recent arrivals of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
Ngumoha was omitted from Tuchel’s initial 55‑man list, meaning he cannot be called up as an injury replacement. He made only ten senior starts for Liverpool last season, a figure that sparked dissatisfaction under Arne Slot. The departure of Mohamed Salah and the appointment of Andoni Iraola, who has already fielded Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan and Dean Hujisen, suggest a greater willingness to rely on younger talent.
Ngumoha remains confident of reuniting with Tuchel when England begin their UEFA Nations League campaign in September.
