Ross McCrorie returns to Rangers on three-year deal

Defender Ross McCrorie, 28, has signed a three‑year contract with Rangers, with an option for a fourth year, after Bristol City accepted an undisclosed offer. The move reunites him with manager Derek McInnes and follows a summer 2023 transfer to Ashton Gate for a reported £2 million fee.

McCrorie earned his second Scotland cap in a 1‑0 friendly defeat to Ivory Coast in March. He has been capped twice for Scotland and is included in the squad for Euro 2024.

Speaking to Rangers media, McCrorie said, “It is a dream come true to come back up the road to the team I support.” He added that he is no longer “that little kid” at Rangers and feels ready to win trophies.

He began his career in the Rangers academy, debuting in September 2017 and making more than 50 appearances before moving to Aberdeen. At Aberdeen he spent three seasons under McInnes, gaining experience that led to his full‑international status.

McCrorie made 89 appearances for Bristol City, 41 of them in the last season, playing primarily at right‑back but also covering midfield. In May, the Championship side exercised the option to extend his contract by a year, and he inherits the number two shirt vacated by long‑serving captain James Tavernier, who left after 11 years.

Derek McInnes said, “Ross is someone I signed for Aberdeen from Rangers, and at that time he wanted to go out and prove himself, which I think says a lot for him.” He praised McCrorie’s development, added that the full‑international knows the club inside out and is determined to bring good times back.

A Hull bid for Rangers’ James Raskin is expected to fall short, underscoring the club’s focus on new signings. McCrorie joins fellow Scotland international Lawrence Shankland, who is currently at the World Cup with Scotland.
