Sergio Canales rejoins Racing de Santander for 2026/27

Midfielder Sergio Canales has officially rejoined Racing de Santander, the Cantabrian side that promoted to La Liga for the 2026/27 campaign, after his Rayados de Monterrey contract runs out on 30 June. The move marks his return to the club where he progressed from the youth academy to a 2010 transfer to Real Madrid.

Canales began his career in Racing de Santander’s youth academy before moving to Real Madrid in 2010. The Cantabrian midfielder spent several seasons with the Spanish giants before departing.

Racing de Santander have secured promotion to the First Division, returning to La Liga for the 2026/27 season. Their home ground, El Sardinero, will host top‑flight matches again.

Canales left La Liga in 2023. He later signed with Rayados de Monterrey.

His contract with Rayados de Monterrey expires on 30 June. He will become a free agent at that time.

The club describes the acquisition as one of the most exciting signings for the upcoming campaign. Canales will be part of Racing de Santander’s La Liga squad for 2026/27.
