Sheffield United target Manchester City defender Max Alleyne

🇬🇧 1 uur geleden

Sheffield United are reportedly preparing a loan deal for 20‑year‑old Manchester City centre‑back Max Alleyne, with the move expected to materialise ahead of the 2026‑27 season. Alleyne, who spent part of last season on loan at Watford before returning to the Etihad, has made seven senior appearances for City.

Danny Hall of The Sheffield Star notes that Chris Wilder is shaping a summer overhaul that could involve 15‑20 departures from Bramall Lane. Wilder’s plan lists centre‑half Max Alleyne among priority targets while club captain Japhet Tanganga’s role remains secure after the exits of Ben Mee, Tyler Bindon, Leo Hjelde and potentially Mark McGuinness.

Wilder has repeatedly stressed his preference for seasoned players, saying, “We don’t need any more young players.” He points to clubs such as Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Millwall as models for the type of squad he intends to assemble.

Max Alleyne has been regarded as one of Manchester City’s more promising academy centre‑backs, earning first‑team recognition under Pep Guardiola in the second half of the recent season. He featured in seven matches for a senior City side after his January recall, an unusually high tally for a player of his age.

Manchester City are undergoing a significant squad overhaul ahead of Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge. The club expects Alleyne to spend the next campaign on loan, with a Championship move seen as the most likely route for his development.

A Championship loan would represent a considerable step up from Alleyne’s prior experience at Watford. City’s recruitment staff will need to assess his progress to determine his long‑term future at the Etihad Stadium. The recall of a centre‑back from a Championship loan earlier in the season was triggered by an injury to Josko Gvardiol.
