Riquelme Promises Haaland Signing, Club Denies
The Real Madrid presidential election will conclude on Sunday 7 June. On Wednesday 3 June, challenger Enrique Riquelme pledged to sign Rodri and Erling Haaland if elected.
Riquelme is running against incumbent Florentino Perez, who seeks a sixth consecutive term. Riquelme presented his promises on a Spanish television programme to persuade the club’s socios.
The announced targets include midfielder Rodri and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Rodri and Haaland were named as the key signings in Riquelme’s proposal.
The camp of Haaland, the Norwegian forward of Manchester City, immediately refuted the claim. No official confirmation followed the denial.
The election result on 7 June will determine whether Riquelme can pursue the promised acquisitions. Real Madrid’s transfer strategy remains uncertain pending the vote.
