Dieter Hecking stays as Wolfsburg manager after relegation
VfL Wolfsburg confirmed Dieter Hecking will remain as head coach following their relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.
The club announced the decision after Hecking’s contract was reviewed amid the team’s drop from the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg finished 16th in the 2023-24 Bundesliga.
Hecking, who took charge in 2022, guided Wolfsburg to a 12th-place finish in his first season but oversaw a seven-point drop in 2023-24. The club’s statement did not disclose contract terms or duration.
Wolfsburg’s announcement follows internal discussions about the club’s restructuring after relegation. No further managerial changes were announced.
The team will prepare for the 2. Bundesliga under Hecking’s leadership for the 2024-25 season.
