Jose Mourinho favors Nico Paz, Brahim Diaz's future uncertain

🇪🇸 8 June 2026
Jose Mourinho now has a free hand on key decisions at Real Madrid after Florentino Perez retained his role as club president. Mourinho has expressed a clear preference for Nico Paz and aims to bring the Argentine back ahead of next season following an impressive loan spell at Como. Brahim Diaz is listed among Real Madrid players considered transferable this summer to free up space in a crowded attacking sector for Paz’s reintegration. Diaz, however, says he has no intention of leaving the Bernabeu and is determined to stay and fight for his place under Mourinho. Mourinho favors a 4-2-3-1 formation and seeks creative, versatile players between the lines, pointing clearly toward Paz as a priority. Paz contributed 12 goals and seven assists in Serie A and played a key role in Como’s historic Champions League qualification. Real Madrid hold a buy‑back option for Paz valued at €9 million, representing exceptional value. Creating room for Paz could mean Brahim Diaz misses out on Mourinho’s plans. The club’s hierarchy view Diaz as a player who can be moved on to generate space and potentially raise funds. Whether Madrid will succeed in moving the Moroccan international remains to be seen.
