EA FC raises age limit, ending long‑standing 3‑plus tradition

EA Sports FC 27, the new EA Sports football game due on 25 September, will carry a PEGI 16+ rating, replacing the long‑standing 3+ recommendation that applied to the series when it was known as FIFA. The change follows a PEGI rule update in June that now requires games with real‑money microtransactions to be rated 16+.

A Thursday official trailer unveiled EA Sports FC 27, confirming the next installment in the franchise. The video showcases updated graphics and the new cover stars.

The game is scheduled for release on 25 September. It will be available across major consoles and PC.

PEGI revised its classification rules in June, stipulating that any new title featuring real‑money microtransactions must carry a minimum age rating of 16+. This policy shift directly impacts EA Sports FC 27.

Previously, when the series was known as FIFA, the title held a PEGI 3+ recommendation, allowing children as young as three to play. The new rating therefore breaks a decades‑long tradition of low‑age guidance.

The Ultimate Team mode lets players purchase virtual packs using real money, a feature that prompted the rating change. These packs contain player cards from current and former football stars worldwide.

Games rated 16+ are typically associated with violent content and profanity, such as titles from the Uncharted and Spider‑Man series. EA Sports FC 27 joins that category despite being a sports simulation.

EA Sports announced that Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham will appear on the cover of the new game. Both players are among the most prominent figures in contemporary football.
