Aston Villa Target Zion Suzuki as Martínez Replacement
Aston Villa are monitoring Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as a priority alternative if Emiliano Martínez departs. The club’s summer planning has reached a decisive stage, according to reports.
Suzuki, 23, joined Parma in July 2024 and is contracted until June 2029. His Transfermarkt valuation stands at €20 million, and he has earned 24 caps for Japan and 20 Serie A appearances this season. He is praised for his reflexes, positioning and ability to play with the ball at his feet.
Unai Emery’s side need a goalkeeper comfortable under pressure, capable of clean distribution and able to handle the emotional weight of replacing Martínez. The manager’s requirements align with Suzuki’s profile as a modern shot‑stopper.
Beyond football, Suzuki generates headlines in Japan after every match, offering commercial value in the Far East market for a Premier League club with European ambitions.
Bayern München, Inter, Napoli and Manchester United are also monitoring Suzuki, meaning Parma can command a higher fee. No formal bids have been submitted to Parma at this stage.
Villa have also noted Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen as a more expensive option. With Martínez’s future unresolved, Villa may act quickly, as one source put it: “If Martinez leaves, Villa will move. Fast.”
