Aymeric Laporte Reflects on Manchester City Nostalgia

Aymeric Laporte says he still feels a strong sense of nostalgia for his six‑year spell at Manchester City. He left the English club for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr in 2023 after five‑and‑a‑half years. Laporte told The Athletic that the group that dominated English football under Pep Guardiola remains vivid. He described his feelings as “Nostalgic” and added that he never had the chance to properly say goodbye to supporters. Guardiola had first tried to sign Laporte while at Bayern Munich, offering him a place alongside John Stones. Laporte recalled agreeing, saying “Let’s go, this is my style, this is what I want”. Laporte praised the quality of the City squad, naming David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Kun Aguero as key figures. He also singled out the 2019 quarter‑final loss to Tottenham Hotspur and the 2022 semi‑final collapse against Real Madrid as lingering pains. He noted that injuries later reduced his role and altered his relationship with Guardiola. Now back at Athletic Club and preparing for the World Cup with Spain, Laporte remains grateful for his City years despite the lingering sting.
