Barcelona deadline looms for Marcus Rashford transfer

Barcelona, the Spanish champions, have until 15 June to activate the £26m clause that would make Marcus Rashford's loan move permanent. Manchester United have not received any official communication from Barcelona. Speculation over the past 24 hours suggests Barcelona may opt against completing the signing. Rashford, 28, earned his 71st England cap in a 1‑0 friendly win over New Zealand. Barcelona have already paid £69.3m for Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon, who is also competing for an England starting spot with Rashford at the World Cup. Manchester United maintain that they will not renegotiate Rashford's contract, which runs to 2028, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to lower top‑level wages. Former manager Ruben Amorim placed Rashford in the "bomb squad" before the loan, while Michael Carrick said no decision had been made about the attacker’s future. Carrick’s link to Rashford dates back to their time together under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose dismissal in 2021 preceded Carrick’s three‑game spell as manager. If the 15 June deadline passes, Rashford would be entitled to three weeks off after England’s World Cup campaign. Should the Three Lions exit in the quarter‑finals, he would return to United’s Carrington training ground in early August, ahead of a pre‑season match against Paris St‑Germain in Gothenburg and a subsequent training camp in the Republic of Ireland. Keane and Fernandes have also cleared the air after a recent row.
