Chelsea eye Leeds left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson as Premier League boost

Chelsea have been reported to be interested in signing Leeds United’s 27‑year‑old Swedish left‑back Gabriel Gudmundsson during the upcoming summer transfer window. Gudmundsson finished the previous season with one goal and one assist across 35 appearances for Leeds, a record that underlines his growing reputation in the Premier League.

Expressen disclosed that the Blues are actively eyeing a move to secure the Swedish defender this summer. The report indicates Chelsea see Gudmundsson as a priority target in the transfer market.

During last season, Gudmundsson delivered a series of impressive displays on the left flank for Leeds United. He has been described as one of the most talented left‑backs currently competing in the Premier League.

His contract with Leeds United runs until the summer of 2029, meaning a free transfer is unlikely before then. This contractual situation could make a low‑cost acquisition difficult for Chelsea later in the window.

Gudmundsson is praised for his tackling ability, timing of challenges, and decent crossing from the left side. He also contributes occasional goals and assists and can operate as a left‑winger when required by his manager.

Having already adapted to the pace of the Premier League, he is expected to settle quickly at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso believes Gudmundsson will add quality to his backline and compete for a regular first‑team place.

At 27, Gudmundsson still has his prime years ahead, making him a strategic signing for the Blues. His addition could help Chelsea push for a top‑four finish in the Premier League in the coming seasons.
