Chelsea probe Lacroix move as Chalobah's future hangs

Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, Italian Serie A side Como are reported to be very interested in Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, although a deal appears difficult. The enquiry suggests manager Enzo Maresca is evaluating his defensive options ahead of the new campaign. Chelsea’s summer recruitment has already gathered momentum with the potential addition of Lacroix. Xabi Alonso is quoted as saying, “Xabi Alonso wants to sign a new centre-back this summer and Lacroix is one of several targets.” His comment indicates that Lacroix is among multiple candidates being considered by the club. Lacroix has developed into one of the Premier League’s more impressive central defenders, combining recovery pace with strong physical attributes and composure on the ball. Such qualities have attracted attention across Europe and could invite competition from other elite clubs. Chelsea’s recruitment strategy has largely centred on signing players capable of fitting into a progressive, possession‑based system. Lacroix appears to tick many of those boxes, according to the report. “Italian side Como are very interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah.” The same source adds that “a deal looks difficult for Como to achieve and there are other interested clubs.” Chalobah has repeatedly demonstrated his reliability whenever called upon, making any permanent departure a significant decision for Chelsea’s recruitment team. Chelsea’s enquiry does not necessarily indicate an imminent transfer, but confirms the club is actively assessing its defensive options. As the market develops, Chelsea may soon face important decisions over whether to accelerate their pursuit of Lacroix or explore alternative defensive targets. Both Lacroix’s future at Crystal Palace and Chalobah’s position at Stamford Bridge will remain stories to watch.
