Declan Rice in good mental space ahead of Ghana World Cup tie

🇬🇧 yesterday
Declan Rice, the 27‑year‑old England midfielder, described last season’s title win with Arsenal as “mentally tough” but says he is now in a “very good space” ahead of England’s World Cup match against Ghana on Tuesday, after being withdrawn from the 4‑2 victory over Croatia. Rice has recorded 63 appearances for both Arsenal and England during the current campaign. He is set to win his 75th cap for the Three Lions in the upcoming game against Ghana. The midfielder disclosed to ITV Sport that he has been coping with “neural pain” in his hamstring since the start of the year. He insists his body has been conditioned to withstand the demanding schedule of long seasons. "I have been lucky enough to play in Europe for the last six years," the 27‑year‑old said. He reflected on three seasons with West Ham United followed by three seasons at Arsenal. Rice judged the season to be more mentally tough than physically, noting the roller‑coaster of emotions players endure. He added that he is mentally in a very good space and physically feels really good. The England midfielder aims to carry this mindset into the remainder of the World Cup tournament. He expressed a desire to keep taking his form into the end of the competition.
